palabración is an exhibit inspired by words and the reality that languages—spoken, read, written, and implied—are tools of power.  The objects, installations, drawings, and animated films in this exhibit are a meditation on the invention, interpretation, and potential of languages-- English, Spanish, and Spanglish.  Inspired by tools and everyday objects, artist Cecilia Mendez works with letters, symbols, and codes to search for ways in which meaning through language is made.  In many of the works, tools, especially kitchen tools, emerge as metaphors for the human body, anthropomorphized in both two and three dimensions.  Identity, personal histories, and food are other sources of inspiration for Méndez.
